ALASKA FOR CHRISTMAS Book Review

Alaska for Christmas by Jennifer Snow

Is it even Christmas if we’re not reading holiday rom-coms?  And I don’t think you can get any more in the holiday spirit than by going to Alaska for Christmas.

What’s Alaska for Christmas about?

Alaska for Christmas is a Christmas rom-com about Isla, who gets amnesia during a glacier hike (umm, what???) and ends up falling for her rescuer, Coast Guard office Aaron, who also happens to be her childhood nemesis. Isla (love that name!) goes on a lil’ journey of self-discovery before she gets her memory back, learning about her past and how it’s made her into who she was pre-amnesia: someone who never let anyone get too close.

And, of course, all of this takes place at Christmas, a holiday that both Isla and Aaron have mixed emotions about.

What I enjoyed about Alaska for Christmas

Although I get annoyed with Christmas rom-coms, every now and then I find one that grabs my attention. I decided to read Jennifer Snow’s Alaska for Christmas because I love stories set in Alaska and all their wintry, hygge vibes.

Thankfully, Snow’s book did not disappoint. This holiday read is full of beautiful descriptions of Alaskan winter scenery. Isla’s very into winter sports, and she spends her time climbing glaciers and frozen waterfalls. Alaska for Christmas also features a dog sledding adventure (which I now want to go on!), and the two lovebirds sneak away for a cozy, romantic, snowy mountain getaway. It was all enough to make me search for my own Alaskan Christmas experience.

I really liked the romantic chemistry between Isla and Aaron. The two begin the novel as frenemies, but the tension between them shifts as they spend more and more time together. It’s a little weird that Aaron agrees to date Isla while she has amnesia, and Snow makes sure to acknowledge this in the story. Despite that, their romantic relationship progresses quickly but believably. I appreciated the fact that it’s Isla’s amnesia that helps them both set their pride aside so they can truly get to know one another.

Should you read Alaska for Christmas?

Pick up Alaska for Christmas for tons of cozy Christmas vibes, hygge winter vibes, and a fun enemies-to-lovers romance. The passion level of this holiday rom-com gets to an R-rated level, but it’s not crazy over the top.

Alaska for Christmas is the second book in the Wild Coast series by Jennifer Snow. You don’t need to have read the first book, Sweet Home Alaska, to follow along with this one. However, given how much I enjoyed Alaska for Christmas, I might end up reading Sweet Home Alaska, too.
