Hello, Tartlets and Darksiders! A new book club podcast episode is up on Dark Side of the Word. Join me and Kait as we discuss the horror novel Schrader’s Chord by Scott Leeds.
Charlie’s dad isn’t the type of man to commit suicide. But there’s a text from Charlie’s sisters that has him boarding a plane to deal with the aftermath back home in Seattle. Charlie had a falling out with his father years earlier. Since then, they haven’t spoken and Charlie has tried to forget what happened. So, when his father’s will entrusts him with a black record case and a note attached that simply says “They’re real,” Charlie is ready to have a good laugh and go back home.
But, Charlie’s family and friends convince to play the records inside the case – records that contain a musical chord that opens the Land of the Dead. At first, things are fine. Nothing strange happens. It’s not until the dead start to appear everywhere that Charlie and his friends realize they’ve opened a door they can’t close without paying a very high price.
It only took a year of the podcast to find a book that both Kait and ii absolutely loved, and Schrader’s Chord is it. Come listen to what we loved so much about this unique, engaging horror novel, and what writing tips we gleaned from this book.
